Dear Dance Community, 

As we navigate another impactful year at Dance/NYC, we recognize the significance of balance and renewal in our programming and advocacy efforts. Grounded in our steadfast commitment to justice, equity, and inclusion, we must prioritize the well-being of our team alongside our collective mission.

To allow the Dance/NYC team an opportunity to rest after a busy start to the year, the Dance/NYC offices will be closed from Saturday, May 18, 2024 through Sunday, May 26, 2024 for spring break. Upon our return, we will focus on internal intention setting from Monday, May 27 through Sunday, June 2, 2024. During this period, our office will be closed for public-facing programs with limited external communications.

To help you continue to access important resources, you can find the answers to your most frequently asked questions here, including details on where you can get timely information about the field while we are away.
 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

As we anticipate the rest of 2024, we will:

• Keep prioritizing the DWR Initiative, including advancing the Our New York City Dance campaign and development of the Dance Workforce Directory on the DWR Hub.  
• Further our commitment to resource distribution to small-budget organizations through our fourth iteration of the Dance Advancement Fund. 
• Continue to focus on our internal infrastructure, embarking on a 6-month strategic planning process for the organization.

DANCE/NYC FAQs

 

Key Dates: 

• May 16: Submit ads by 3:00 p.m. for website ads to run during the organizational break
• May 18–26: Dance/NYC offices closed, no external programs, limited communications and ad placements​​.
• May 27–31: Dance/NYC office reopens for internal activity: no external programs, limited external communications
• June 3: Resume all external programs and communications

Advocacy:

1. We are thrilled to unveil the Our New York City Dance campaign, a rallying call for the New York City dance community to come together and take action towards building an industry that is valued, protected, sustainable, and just. Explore our primers addressing three critical issues highlighted by our research:

2. Sign the Cultural Equity Coalition's open letter to Mayor Adams to underscore the importance of equitable arts funding and urge him to restore funds for the Cultural Development Fund program groups.

3. Sign up to testify at the final Department of Cultural Affairs Budget Hearing for FY25 on May 21.

• ​​If you are interested in advertising with Dance/NYC during this period, please note the following:
• Ads purchased between Friday, May 17 and Sunday, May 26, will not be processed until the week of May 27. Please plan accordingly.
  • For ads to run in the Monday, May 20 newsletter, ads must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Any ads submitted past this date will not be included.
  • For ads to run in the Monday, May 27 newsletter, ads must be submitted by 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 27.
  • For website ads to run during the organizational break, the submission deadline is Thursday, May 16, at 3:00 p.m.

Grantmaking:

1. Dance Advancement Fund

• This program is currently in the application stage of a two-year grant cycle (2024-2026). Expressions of Interest (EOI) are due by June 8, 2024 by 5:00 PM. For more information visit https://bit.ly/DAF24-26.

2. Rehearsal Space Subsidy Program

• This program is in the third of a three-year grant cycle (2022-2024). New requests and applications to the Rehearsal Space Subsidy Program are not accepted at this time.
