Are you making dance happen in NYC?

Dance/NYC invites dance workers, organizations, and entities to join us for the Dance Industry Census Roundtable Discussion Series to capture real life stories from our industry.

These roundtable discussions are an opportunity for you to have your unique perspective as a dance worker or organization recognized and provide the dance community with a better understanding of the size, makeup, health and state of the dance ecosystem in order to address economic inequities in the field. Your participation will help Dance/NYC influence and advocate for meaningful change in policies and practices that directly impact the dance industry, its many workers and organized entities.

Data collected will be analyzed by Dance/NYC and presented in aggregate form in Dance/NYC’s State of NYC Dance research report, to be published in Fall 2023.

 


SCHEDULE

The series includes in-person events across NYC’s five boroughs and three regional metropolitan areas, plus two virtual-only options. Events take place on Wednesdays, from November 2022 through February 2023, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. ET. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and food will be served from 6–6:30 p.m. ONLY for in-person events.

SERIES DETAILS

Registration: Registration is required. All conversations are free and open to the public. Limited capacity, entrance granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Online registration will close at 3:00 p.m. on the day of the event. If you need assistance with registration, please email programs@dance.nyc.

COVID-19 Safety: Masks and proof of vaccination/or proof of negative test results are required. Learn more about Dance/NYC’s COVID policy.

Event Format: The Dance Industry Census Roundtable Discussion Series will take place on dates from November 2022 to February 2023. Each event will open with a presentation from Dance/NYC about the status of the Census and its preliminary findings, followed by facilitated small group discussions where attendees will address key issues related to their experiences as dance workers and organizations — especially those that shed more light on their economic experiences. Note: These events include provision of a light meal (in person only) and access services.

Any slides used will be visually described. Due to the live participatory nature of the event, recordings of roundtable discussions will not be made available for future public reference.

DATA COLLECTION, USAGE, AND INFORMED CONSENT

The purpose of this event is to learn about and record aspects of the experiences of attendees through facilitated conversation. By participating in any of the roundtable discussions you consent to have your contributions — shared orally or in written notes — to be used anonymously by Dance/NYC for research purposes including for our research reports, research presentations and analyzed data made publicly available for use by the sector. The conversations from each event will be audio recorded and notes will be taken for data analysis and archiving purposes by Dance/NYC’s research team only. Your name will not be shared or attached to any input you provide. A detailed informed consent form will be given to you to review and sign during the event. If you have further questions about how the data will be used please write to research@dance.nyc.


SANCTUARY SPACE STATEMENT

Dance/NYC and its venue partners declare the Dance Industry Census Roundtable Discussion Series to be sanctuary spaces for the duration of each event. This acts on Dance/NYC’s commitment to justice, equity, and inclusion. In declaring a sanctuary space, Dance/NYC and venue partners commit to:

  • Providing a safe space for all - a space free of discrimination; a space where people will not be mistreated because of their race, ethnicity, gender or gender expression, immigration status, sexual orientation, disability, or religious faith (or lack thereof).
  • Protect any information on immigration status of all members, staff, artists, and visitors in any way possible and to the best of our abilities.
  • Invite participation in art, culture, and education in a place free of fear.

COVID-19 STATEMENT

Dance/NYC is committed to maintaining an environment that prioritizes the health and safety of staff, volunteers, participants, and attendees at its events. Per New York City Guidelines, cultural venues are allowed to determine their own policies regarding masks and vaccination. 

As of October 6, 2022, and due to current rates of infections and hospitalizations in New York City, Dance/NYC has amended event safety guidelines to minimize the risk involved in gathering in-person. These amendments are based on CDC, OSHA, and cultural sector recommendations, and the policies of our venue partners. Guidelines are subject to change based on evolving guidance from officials and Dance/NYC’s ongoing assessment of these policies. 

The following requirements apply to anyone participating onsite for Dance/NYC events from November 2022 through February 2023. 

Summary of Guidelines

  • All attendees, participants, staff and volunteers are required to:
  • Wear a KN95 or N95 mask that covers both nose and mouth, except for brief moments to eat or drink in designated areas.
  • Showing proof of vaccination status as outlined
  • If claiming a medical or religious exemption, showing proof of negative COVID-19 test (at home/antigen/PCR) with:
    • A photo of an at home rapid COVID-19 test with a time stamp
    • A receipt of a lab Antigen or PCR test with confirmed negative results
  • Practice hand washing and hygiene. 

Dance/NYC will provide KN95 masks on site with clear bars for ease of lip reading during discussion to make updated guidelines possible. For a detailed overview of guidelines refer to the section below.

Acknowledgement of Risk

There is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public space where people are present. Dance/NYC cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed to COVID-19 at in-person convenings. By attending the event, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold Dance/NYC, or any of its trustees, directors, officers, employees, agents, contractors, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury.

In-Person Health and Safety Practices

  • Dance/NYC and venue partners require participants (ie; performers, speakers, etc.) and audience members to be vaccinated: 
    • All audience members ages 5 and older must be fully vaccinated. You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after you have received a second dose in a two-dose vaccine series or two weeks after you have received a single-dose vaccine. Audience members under the age of 5 can provide a negative test taken within 72 hours of event start time in lieu of vaccination
    • Audience members and participants must provide in-person verification of vaccination provided through:
      • The Excelsior Pass or an original physical vaccination card or photograph of it
      • Venue and/or Dance/NYC safety personnel will review your proof of vaccination along with your photo ID as you arrive. 
        • Photo ID not required by those accompanied by a parent.
        • Photo ID can be any ID that clearly identifies the name and has a visible image of the holder. 
  • If claiming a medical or religious exemption, Dance/NYC staff, audience members, and participants over the age of 5 will be required to provide a negative Covid test within 24 hours prior to the event. Verification of test can be provided through:
    • A photo of an at home rapid COVID-19 test with a time stamp 
    • A receipt of a lab Antigen or PCR test with confirmed negative results
  • Audience members and participants must wear a KN95 or N95 mask upon entering the building and for the entire time in the building, except when drinking in designated areas. Additionally to allow for ease of communication during a discussion focused event Dance/NYC is requiring attendees, staff and participants to wear N95/KN95 masks with clear bars for ease of lip reading. Dance/NYC will provide N95/KN95 masks with clear bars for all attendees to make adherence to this guideline possible. Surgical masks or cloth masks will not be accepted as stand alone face covers.

Expectations of Conduct and Guidelines

  • Dance/NYC expects all attendees, participants, staff and volunteers to comply with outlined safety measures and guidelines at all times. These include:
    • Mask wearing that covers both nose and mouth, except for brief moments to eat or drink in designated areas.
    • Hand washing and hygiene. 
    • Showing proof of vaccination status as outlined
    • Showing proof of negative COVID-19 test if claiming a medical or religious exemption
  • Dance/NYC staff and volunteers reserve the right to ensure compliance with these guidelines through verbal and written reminders. If compliance is not possible participants or attendees will not be able to enter the in-person event and/or will be asked to leave.
  • If you have questions or concerns about safety practices please contact the Dance/NYC Programs Team at programs@dance.nyc. Dance/NYC staff will also be easily identifiable during the event should you have questions upon arriving at the venue. 
  • Dance/NYC will update these guidelines and measures as appropriate and/or based on local, state and federal mandates continue to evolve and as the global COVID-19 pandemic shifts. 
  • Dance/NYC expects all attendees, participants, staff and volunteers to adhere to the guidelines as presented in October 2022.
