Performers Needed
SIT, STAND, WALK, LIE DOWN.... which will be featured in SITELINES 2010 this summer. You can read about the Festival at the following link: http://www.lmcc.net/cultural_programs/sitelines/sitelines_2010/
The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council has commissioned Phil Soltanoff to create an original site specific work to be performed on and around Governors Island on July 31st and August 1st @3:30pm.
"The piece is called SIT, STAND, WALK, LIE DOWN.... and its about space, public space. I'm interested in the spaces I encounter everyday-- forgotten and ignored space, junk space, as well as the spectacular and privileged spaces. The point of this performance is to reveal the spaces of Governors Island by painting on them with choreography.
A large group of us will go out to Governors Island everyday and develop interesting ways to reveal the qualtities of Governors Island through choreographic gestures. We'll have to develop the choreography from scratch. It will be fun hard work and immensely rewarding. I speak from experience. I've built many projects of this nature and they're exhilarating to rehearse and perform. But it takes commitment......meaning you have to show up and you have to be willing to create as an ensemble. The work is physical and fairly rigorous. I'll lead some training sessions to get things kicked off. I'm going to rehearse weekday afternoons commencing June 28th. We're not allowed on the island in the evening, so the rehearsals must be during the day. I understand that many of you have daytime commitments. Contact me about your scheduling issues and we'll try to work it out."
