Audition Notice
Dana Salisbury and the No-See-Ums

Dana Salisbury is looking for NYC-based dancer/improvisers who have curiosity, motor skills/dance technique, somatic awareness, and musicality.

Dancers need to be available Thursday and Friday afternoons on an on-going basis. A year’s commitment is desirable; the minimum period would be through Spring 2011. We have an active performance schedule. After a trial period, rehearsals are paid.

We  create dances for blindfolded audiences. This means dancers are not seen; audiences experience the work through their other senses. The work is process-based. Each performance has a different score and is site- and audience-specific.

In rehearsal, we do a lot of experimenting. The work calls for being curious, responsive to the moment, disciplined and playful. We spend a lot of time considering physical interaction with the audience. You need to be sensitive, intuitive and comfortable with your body and voice. We pay detailed attention to conveying specific meaning through sound, touch and spatial relationships.

The current group has a great rapport; we look forward to rehearsals, arrive on time, and give ample notice when there are any scheduling conflicts.

For more information about the work, please visit http://www.danasalisbury.com/unseendances.html.

Auditions will be in the form of participating in a rehearsal or two with the company during the month of October. If you would like to be considered, please send a brief note saying why you would be interested and a bio or resume to dana@danasalisbury.com

You are also encouraged to attend our Touch Workshop on Sunday, October 10 from 3-5 pm at The Rover Soho. Information about the workshop and our upcoming performances can be found at www. www.danasalisbury.com/calendar
