Mash Up Body

 

anonymous bodies is having an audition for their new work, "Mash Up Body", choreographed and directed by Kate Watson-Wallace and created in collaboration with video installation artist Ricardo Rivera and musician/DJ Chris Powell. "Mash Up Body" is a performance installation that examines a multi-tasking body in a dance with attention deficit disorder. Choreographer MiguelGutierrezwill work with Watson-Wallace as an outside eye/mentor in the process and Jaamil Kosoko will be the dramaturge. The piece will premiere at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in 2013 as well as have a small tour.

"Mash Up Body" is being supported by the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage through Dance Advance, and the Kelly Strayhorn Theater.

anonymous bodiesis an interdisciplinary performance companyco-directed by Kate Watson-Wallace and Jaamil OlawaleKosoko that createsmovement installations for galleries, site based locations, and prosceniumstage venues. They drawupon the traditions of visual art, post-modern dance,site-specific study, conceptual and performance art, audienceparticipation andpublic spectacle. They engage with communities by casting local performers innew versions of the workin the spaces that they spend their daily lives. Theyhave received numerous awards including a 2012 Philadelphia LiveArts FestivalLAB Fellowship and 2007 Pew Fellowship in the Arts in Choreography, amongothers. Their work takesaudiences on intimate, human-scale journeys,seamlessly integrating movement, video, sound and set. Known for theircreativeuse of ordinary space, anonymous bodies “has a gift for making pockets of spacefeel infinite. Wild imaginationruled.” (The New York Times)

Kate Watson-Wallace is a choreographer, director, and professional development facilitator. She co-directs anonymous bodies, with Jaamil Kosoko, an art collective based in Philadelphia. She creates site-based performances that re-imagine our everyday spaces. Work includes HOUSE, a performance for 15 audience members inside an abandoned row home, CAR, an audience for 4 audience members who sit inside a moving vehicle, STORE, a performance installation about American greed, and Everywhere, a participatory on-line dance experience, and contest. Watson-Wallace is a 2007 Pew Fellow in the Arts in Choreography, and has received two Map Fund Grants (a program of Creative Capital), a Doris Duke Exploration Grant through Creative Capital, four grants from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage’s Dance Advance program, as well as funding from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, The Independence Foundation, and PennPAT.
