Audition - David Appel

Sunday July 22nd from 2-5pm (there will be time at the beginning for people to warm up)

Looking for an additional 1-2 dancers for an upcoming small group project. First rehearsals are August 7-September 28: must be available Tuesdays 6-9pm and Fridays 4-7pm (except that the 9/25 rehearsal has been changed to Monday 9/24, 6-9pm). After a single meeting in October, rehearsals will resume at least once per week in November leading up to pending first performance in early December.

Dancers should have at least several years of professional experience beyond college/university. Must be mature, articulate movers who improvise well, are open to exploring an expanded and unconventional idea of what dancing is all about, and who are willing and able to investigate a range of performative qualities.

DAVID APPEL is a choreographer/performer whose work has been presented throughout North America, Europe, and in Mexico since 1973. He is also a member of Orb. Fade. Trip. Dog., an occasional quartet of veteran improvising dance artists living in 4 different cities. Please Note: this work, which tends to be a variable mesh of improvised and set material, is grounded in a strong belief in process as an underpinning for creating dances--so you must be comfortable with and interested in this to be a suitable possible participant. If you are unfamiliar with what he has been doing, by all means go to www.youtinydancer.com and look at some of the video clips from previous pieces BEFORE you contact us.

There will be a fee paid for this project.

To be considered, please send--by July 20--a one-page resume or summary of your background (with dates) to appel_audition@verizon.net ...after which you will be sent the audition location. Thanks.
