Dancers Needed ASAP for April Performance Opportunity

Dancers needed for the development of a movement study to be presented at Chen Dance Center April 18-20th. The study, currently titled "constellation dances" is a series of simultaneous choreographies stemming from the interpretations of site specific celestial data. Along with the choreographer and composer dancers will explore qualitative, quantitative and site specific star data to manipulate the tempo , dynamics and the content of the dance. While basic scores are predetermined by the fixture of stars in the sky through season in which we are dancing; ie the location of stars in relationship to venue and time of performance guide the floor patterns engaged in the dance; other data will be used to manipulate this core score. For example, the information pertaining to distance will be developed into a score for interaction or relationships between dancers, the electromagnetic
frequencies of stars will be conveyed through sound and used to guide the tempo o the dance, while the octave of these frequencies will serve to determine which bodily phrases are emphasized in the movement.

We are looking for professional movers who are interested in working in a task based manner, have the ability to embody and improvise with large quantities of material in a short period of time. Our process is subjective and oriented towards the individual, so a confidence in your own inspiration and inclinations to move is a plus.

Outside of performance we estimate 24 hours of rehearsal March 1st- April 14th @$10hr. Approximately 4hrs per week.

Must be available for tech and dress rehearsals the week of the performance in addition to all three performance April 18th-20th.
