Workshop Dates: May 28 - June 14, 2013
Exchange, a work for 15 dancers including Merce Cunningham, was first performed in 1978. The music was David Tudor’s Weatherings, and the design was by Jasper Johns. The dance remained in the repertory until 1981, and was later revived for one season in 1991. Charles Atlas recently released a film of the original cast, consequently sparking interest in this masterwork, and providing a vital resource for its reconstruction. Exchange is divided into three sections, and this workshop will focus on a reconstruction of the first two sections. The workshop will be led by Patricia Lent (MCDC 1984 – 1993), who danced in the 1991 revival. Additionally, members of the original cast have been invited to coach the workshop.
Schedule
Selected dancers will participate in the workshop free of charge. Some familiarity with Cunningham Technique is preferred, but not required.
