Indorican Multicultural Dance Project, a non-profit dance company, is seeking an aspiring dancer/choreographer-college intern in New York City immediately to support the public relations, promotions and marketing initiatives of its 2014 Concert, to be held June 7th at the Pearl Theatre (Off-Broadway) in Manhattan. This is an 8 week internship.

THE COMPANY:
Founded in 2008, Indorican Multicultural Dance Project is dedicated to celebrating the cultural diversity of New York City and its inhabitants through dance. With a focus towards awareness of community, messages of individuality, as well as the acceptance of human needs, the organization brings support, education, encouragement, social awareness and enlightenment to its audiences, encouraging people to take a stand on the events happening around them.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The intern’s responsibilities will be to assist in various strategic tasks to support the promotion, public relations and marketing of the 2014 Concert. This will include attending meetings, participating in creative brainstorming, research efforts, marketing and publicity and various social outreach agendas.

In exchange for successful and satisfactory completion of their internship duties, the intern will receive placement of their dance choreography (one piece, of a social or cultural theme, to be approved by IMDP) in the concert.

REQUIREMENTS:
- College Student in New York City metro area
- Unwavering passion for Dance
- Contemporary and/or ethnic dance student/choreographer)
- Marketing/Public Relations/Communications majors highly preferred
- Familiarity with local media outlets (online and print)
- Comfort / experience in soliciting media outlets ‘cold call’ via email/phone
- Social media savvy (Facebook, Twitter, local dance, multicultural and social awareness blogs)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be friendly, approachable, articulate and work well within a team.
- Ability to establish rapport and foster relationships quickly
- Willingness and desire to contribute to the growth of a nonprofit dance organization
- Enthusiastic, energetic, smart, go-getter
- Excellent project management and follow-through
- Must be able to multi-task
- Analytical, strategic, detail-oriented, creative-minded, able to think ‘outside the box’
- Local light travel as required (subway/PATH)
- Ability to abide by all company standards and procedures
- Minimum commitment of 5 hours per week.
