Professional Company Audition: Saturday, April 1st, 2017

Dance

Urbanity Dance is hosting auditions for our professional Company for the 2017-2018 season on Saturday, April 1st from 3:30-5:30pm at our South End studio. We are seeking male and female dancers with diverse movement backgrounds and a variety of skills. All movers, regardless of experience or training, are encouraged to audition. We are more than willing to train positive, open-minded, and collaborative dancers that come from non-contemporary backgrounds.

About the Company:

Rehearsals occur September through May, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 10am-2pm. Company members may take free classes with Boston-based masters four days a week at the studio. There will be opportunities to work with guest choreographers and professional photographers as well as opportunities to tour. As Boston's most renowned contemporary dance company, all company dancers are paid. Season stipend ranges from $4,000 - $7,000.

How to register:

We suggest letting us know you're planning to attend ahead of time. Email photo, bio and resume to Chance at Chance@urbanitydance.org with subject line "2017 Urbanity Company Auditions". No audition videos in lieu of a live audition will be accepted for the Company. In rare instances, individuals may be asked to join Company class for an individual audition. If interested in an individual audition, please email resume, photos, and videos to chance@urbanitydance.org.

What to expect at the audition:

The audition works as a class, including elements of ballet, modern, jazz, and hip-hop.  Combinations may include leaps and turns, release technique, improvisation exercises, and partner work. The combination will highlight Urbanity's style, weaving fluid release "gooey" technique, with the ability to fiercely hit notes of choreography with specificity and attack. We're looking for wow-factor, appeal, and open-minded willingness to create. Some dancers may be asked to attend individually scheduled callbacks, and/or perform a 1-2 minute solo (either choreographed or improvised). Please bring music and prepare ahead of time.
