The School of the Arts at Purchase College, SUNY seeks candidates for the position of Director of the Conservatory of Dance beginning July 1, 2015. Applicants to this position should possess significant leadership experience within a professional dance conservatory/school setting, preferably including both undergraduate and graduate programs.  In addition, candidates are expected to be accomplished dancers, choreographers, dance scholars, or dance professionals with substantial higher ed teaching experience, enough to qualify for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at Purchase College. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience, and includes a location stipend and full benefits package.
Our ideal candidate will be comfortable working and thinking across disciplines, having interests and experience that extend beyond his or her specialty, and encompass broader approaches to dance practice and human knowledge. Successful candidates will demonstrate their commitment to student learning, success, and liberal education.
Responsibilities include oversight of 9 full-time and approximately 20 part-time faculty members providing training for around 140 undergraduate students. Curricular oversight is paramount, with the required budgetary, logistical, programmatic, and organizational understanding to deliver an internationally recognized professional program. The Director also serves as the Artistic Director of the Purchase Dance Company, whose members come from the student body of the Conservatory.
Other duties will include interacting with the Performing Arts Center and Neuberger Museum of Art, representing the dance discipline within the College and the community, as well as working closely with the Dean to maintain and cultivate new external relationships as they relate to dance, including supporters, donors, friends, and patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A terminal degree (MFA, PhD, etc.) in an academic or studio discipline related to dance, or commensurate professional experience, is required. Evidence of effective leadership and increasing levels of responsibility in a professional program in dance – including demonstrable curricular, budgetary, and external relationship management experience, as well as strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills – is required. Experience teaching at the college level, demonstrated by at least six years of professional dance teaching experience, full-time, at a commensurate rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, is also desired. Experience with graduate professional programs in dance preferred. Minority candidates are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to apply.
