Apply for boo-koo: a space grant & community giveback initiative

Apply for boo-koo: a space grant & community giveback initiative Charlie Winter

Gibney Dance is pleased to announce a call for proposals for boo-koo, our space grant and community giveback initiative for choreographers in the early stages of their career. boo-koo is slang for the French word beaucoup, meaning “much” or “a lot.” Our space grant program embraces the notion that our community is abundant with talent and ingenuity and attempts to harness the power of reciprocity and resource sharing.

In this spirit, Gibney Dance will provide 6 artists with 50 hours of free space to develop new work and a $1,000 stipend to enhance their creative process. In exchange, the participating artists will “giveback” by designing and implementing a special project that will serve the dance or social services communities.

Application Guidelines:

The application is strictly first-come, first-served and we will accept a total of 50 applications. The application will open Monday, February 23, 2015 at 9:00 am at GibneyDance.org/Center/Boo-koo, and will close once we have received 50 applications.

Eligible boo-koo artists are individuals or collectives who meet all of the following criteria:

-They are at the earlier stages of their professional choreographic careers
-They have a developing creative practice
-Their work has had some public exposure but has not yet received widespread or sustained support
-They are not currently enrolled in a school or university
-They are based in New York City

As necessary, boo-koo recipients will receive guidance from Gibney Dance’s Community Action program staff to develop their giveback projects.
