Movement Research Internships Starting September 2015

Movement Research is one of the world's leading laboratories for the investigation of dance and movement-based forms. Valuing the individual artist, their creative process and their vital role within society, Movement Research is dedicated to the creation and implementation of free and low-cost programs that nurture and instigate discourse and experimentation. Movement Research strives to reflect the cultural, political and economic diversity of its moving community, including artists and audiences alike.

Movement Research offers internship opportunities to dancers of all levels, ages 18 and up. We are currently hiring for Fall internship positions to run September 2015-March 2016 with the opportunity to extend. For a 10-15 hour commitment per week, Movement Research provides interns with free access to classes at Eden's Expressway, Danspace Project and Randy Warshaw Studio. 

 

OFFICE INTERNSHIPS with MOVEMENT RESEARCH

Media Intern (September 2015 - March 2016)

The Media Intern assists the Media and Communications Manager with the video archive and database, podcast channel, press and promotional materials, website maintenance and online class listings. The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, basic organizational skills, and an interest in the documentation of contemporary and experimental dance. Experience with Mac software and Excel are strongly encouraged. Experience with Dreamweaver, iMovie, and/or media software a plus.


Performance Journal Archives and Subscriptions Intern  (September 2015 - March 2016)

The PJ Archives and Subscriptions Intern works closely with the Media and Communications Manager to manage subscriptions and maintain the database for the Performance Journal, Movement Research's bi-annual printed publication. Candidates should have experience with Microsoft Excel and Word, excellent writing skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a small, busy office environment. Operations Intern (September 2015 - March 2016)

The Operations Intern works closely with the Operations Manager on the day-to-day needs of the business including; assisting in bookkeeping and financial needs related to the non-profit business model, intern program tracking, contract preparation and distribution for Movement Research faculty and artists, database entry, and light facilities maintenance. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational skills, attention to detail and an interest in arts administration in a non-profit environment.

OTHER INTERNSHIPS with MOVEMENT RESEARCH 

Production Intern (September 2015 - March 2016)

The Production Intern assists with the Movement Research at the Judson Church (weekly Monday nights) and Open Performance (weekly Tuesday nights), Studies Project, Movement Research Festivals and the Annual Gala events. Primary responsibilities include technical assistance, door and event set-up, event oversight, and breakdown. 

 

Critical Correspondence Interns (September 2015 - August 2016)
Internships are approximately 10hrs per week. Hours may be distributed unevenly depending on season and needs. 
CC internship tasks:
- Transcribe/edit interviews
- Help with website maintenance and participate in preparation of monthly e-newsletter
- Convert audio files into podcasts
- Keep a calendar or events, interviews, and other timely matters
- Participate in editorial monthly meeting
- Deliver recorders from the Movement Research office to interviewers


The ideal candidate will have the following:
- An interest in engaging contemporary and experimental dance and/or performance work through language
- Familiarity with web platforms (especially Wordpress)
- Writing and editing skills
- Interview skills
- Ability to work independently
- Audio and video editing skills also greatly appreciated but not required
- Investment in the mission and goals of the publication

The internship is largely self-directed and the intern will most often work from home, aside from monthly meetings. It is a good opportunity to gain experience in the field and hone editorial and critical thinking skills.
