Shen Wei Dance Arts Marketing Development and Management Internships

Shen Wei Dance Arts Marketing Development and Management Internships Shu Lai

Shen Wei Dance Arts (SWDA) is an internationally renowned contemporary dance company under the direction of the Chinese-born, American choreographer and visual artist Shen Wei. The interdisciplinary, culture-bridging, movement-based work Shen Wei makes for his company draws on influences as varied as traditional Chinese culture and arts; European surrealism; American high modernism; and the ritual power of ancient drama. He creates dances for the stage with the compositional rigor of a visual artist (typically designing his own sets, costumes and make-up), incorporating vivid colors, striking design and imaginative use of space into theatrical, kinetic paintings. Often staging his dances on a grand scale with a high level of production detail, his works are celebrated for their “gorgeous visual imagery” (The London Times).

SWDA is currently seeking college students and graduates interested in obtaining hands-on experience in arts administration for fall and spring internships. Our internship program offers an inside look into the day to day operations of a multia??faceted, fast paced arts organization.

Interns will have a unique opportunity to be involved in various aspects of the organization including Marketing and Social Media, Development, and Studio Management. Interns will also assist in planning our Winter Intensive workshop, New York City engagements, fundraising activities and grant preparation.

Internships are unpaid but can be taken for academic credit.  Interns may also apply hours worked to cover tuition at Shen Wei Dance Arts Winter Intensive the first week of January 2016 or exchange work for studio rehearsal space. Interns should expect to work 16-20 hours per week from the SWDA studio office, located at 165 West 86th Street or Development office, located at NYLA. Typically, scheduling is flexible from Ma??F, 10ama??6pm. All interns will have the opportunity to observe company in rehearsals and attend performances.

To apply, please send your resume and cover letter to yunlinzhu@shenweidancearts.org.
