WestFest Dance 2016 | All Over Westbeth

April 30 - May 1 from 2PM-4:30PM

Dear choreographers,

We are calling all choreographers interested in investigating dance through the use of alternative spaces. Each artist selected will be assigned an unique space in and/or around the Westbeth building, in which they will have the opportunity to rehearse and build a dance. We ask that artists create one 4-5 minutes dance work that can be performed multiple times for groups of audiences touring the sites.

On the day of the show (April 30 and May 1) groups of audience members will be guided from site to site to see the dances all over the building. Past sites have included Westbeth’s inner and outer courtyards, long hallways, spiral staircases, the gallery space, boiler room, the rooftop and the Martha Graham Studio Theater. We require choreographers to be at all of the following meetings, rehearsals, as well as performance dates listed bellow. Choreographers who fail to attend any of the dates below will be taken off the program.

REQUIRED MEETINGS/ REHEARSALS

Saturday, February 27, 1-4 PM | Organizational meeting at Westbeth (sites will be assigned). 

Saturday, March 19, 1-4 PM | First on site rehearsal.

Saturday, April 16, 1-4 PM | Second on site rehearsal (the pieces will be timed for the tour).

Saturday April 30, and Sunday May 1 | 12pm Performance call time |  2-4:30 PM Performances all over Westbeth.

*Please note that as Westbeth is a residential building. You may only rehearse in your site during designated rehearsal times.

SELECTED ARTISTS WILL RECEIVE:

An opportunity to present site-specific work in a inovative space full of history.

Two (2) site-specific performances on Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1, 2016. 

Publicity and postcards for the event

Eligibility to book rehearsal in the Martha Graham Studio Theater at a discounted rate of $10/hour (April only)

APPLICATION PROCESS:
 
STEP 1 - Pay the $25 application fee via PayPal. Note that one application fee is required for each application you submit. Choreographers can apply with as many works for Top Floor, and projects for Site Specific as they want. 
 
STEP 2 - Complete the application form in reference to the program you want to apply, TopFloor or All Over Westbeth. Please include a link to a video sample via online source (such as Youtube or Vimeo). Work Samples must be at least 3 continuous minutes in length and be of the proposed work. Minimal cuts/edits are preferred, and rehearsal video of the proposed work is acceptable. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
