Dancing Storytellers Wanted

Dancing Storytellers Wanted Full Stop Collective

FullStop.LAB is excited to support the development and world premiere of Megan Weaver and Hassan Christopher’s dance-theater project, Ghost Card! We are seeking performers, designers and a production manager to join the creative team. Performance dates are August 3, 4, 6, 7 at 7:30pm at Hudson River Park, and September 17 at 2pm at Socrates Sculpture Park. This is a stipend gig.

BLURB:
A voyeuristic gang of hungry ghosts feed on the stories of the living through this audience interactive, card-game-turned-performance. Enslaved to the rules of chance, eight unruly ghosts and an obsessed card dealer relive true, crowdsourced tales through contemporary dance and a host of irreverent storytelling tactics. Join us for Megan Weaver and Hassan Christopher’s Ghost Card as they transform collected voices into a haunting maze of intimate human details and surreal delights.

PERFORMERS:
You are curious, patient and brave. You have extensive training and/or experience in contemporary dance, physical theater, devised work or other generative methodologies. You care about creating a rich audience experience and delivering excellent storytelling in nontraditional formats. You’re not married to linear narrative. You’re available for 2-3 rehearsals a week in June and July. We’re seeking diversity in casting in terms of racial/ethnic identity, age, dis/ability, life experience, training and background.

Rehearsal commitment is approximately 5-6 hours per week in June and July with dress rehearsals July 31, August 1 and 2, plus some pick-up rehearsals in early September. Rehearsals will be scheduled based on performer availability, and will occur on-site whenever possible.

The rehearsal process will consist of improvisation, choreography, and collaborative investigation of each story together to unearth how it wants to be embodied through text, movement or sound. We are goal-oriented but we’re also process people. We will honor and maximize your valuable time in rehearsal as efficiently as possible, while also allowing the material to guide us toward new discoveries when it beckons.

I WANT IN! WHAT DO I DO?
Email a resume and portfolio/reel/headshot as applicable to meganjweaver@gmail.com. Please introduce yourself in your email. It doesn’t have to be formal or perfectly crafted. Just help us get to know who you are, what you’re about, and why you’re interested in the project. Thanks so much! We’re excited to meet you!
