Dance Theatre Etcetera (DTE) seeks proposals from qualified choreographers who have experience working in diverse community contexts using dance as a form of cultural activism. Choreographers will be placed in residencies in Red Hook, Brooklyn with local organizations and will work with constituents from these organizations to create short performance works that explore the concept of active citizenship. Organizations may include a local community justice center, an after-school site and/ or a senior citizen center.

Residencies will consist of ten 2 hour visits and will take place between January and June 2018. Culminating works will be shared with the staff and constituents of the host organization and then at the annual Red Hook Fest in June 2018. Selected choreographers will also participate in a skill sharing lab with DTE staff as part of the project’s orientation phase.

Proposals should include:

2 page written proposal that highlights your previous experience working with community members in community contexts, what age range you’d most like to work with (seniors, adults, young adults, teens or middle/elementary school age students, what social justice issues are of importance to you and an explanation of some of the techniques/tools/strategies you use to develop movement-based work with community members.
a resume including contact info for 2 references and what languages you speak
links to at least two choreographic works
