Wardrobe Intern

Heidi Latsky Dance is an integrated arts institution that do installations  incorporating performance, design and fashion to challenge common conceptions of beauty, bodies, ability and the act of seeing/being seen. This is an opportunity for someone to work with a unique arts group where a substantial portion of the company are artists with disabilities. This is part of the larger mission of HLD to strive for greater inclusion and diversity within our work and our advocacy for cultivating an attitude in the arts and the wider world towards integrating as many people with differing bodies, histories, cultures and styles, and honoring the humanity in everyone. In line with this our wardrobe consists of fashion pieces created by various designers such as Anna Kathleen, NuVu and Susan Obrant that speak to our aesthetic and worldview.

The wardrobe intern will repair, launder, do fittings for dancers, transport and organize costumes:

Must know how to:

- Sew and do basic tailoring

- Launder fashion pieces with different materials

- Be comfortable with the manual labor of transporting costumes between storage to venue.

An ideal candidate would not only help us within New York City (commuting reimbursed) but would also travel with the company to be on location when we do work outside of metro area. The time frames and logistics of each performance will differ from venue to venue and based on how many and which company members involved. Our first out of city performance is at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. the weekend of September 23rd.

We would be glad to arrange with a candidate’s educational institution if they want to receive college credit for their time spent during their internship. For more information about our company you can find us online at www.HeidiLatskyDance.org and to inquire further about this internship email Harry John at HarryJohn@HeidiLatskyDance.org.
