Seeking Assistant Teaching Artists to Teach Dance to Homeless and At-Risk Kids

HOTR Volunteers Kira Bucca

Are you a dedicated, passionate dancer who wants to make a difference? Join other volunteer teaching artists as they share their love of dance with children all over New York City. We have a specific need for candidates in The Upper West Side and The Bronx, but opportunities are also available in Brooklyn, The Upper East Side, and Queens. Interested candidates are welcome to join us at our upcoming Open Rehearsal:

Sunday, January 6 at 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.

Battery Dance Studio: 380 Broadway (5th Floor - the walkup is your warm up!), New York, NY 10013

This Rehearsal will be a chance to participate in an immersive experience with the House of the Roses curriculum. Following the movement portion of rehearsal, there will be a discussion of the HOTR curriculum and lesson plans, an information session, and time for Q&A about the House of the Roses volunteer commitment. At the end of rehearsal, you will sign up for a volunteer shift (one weekday evening per week) which will begin the week of January 7 and run through May 24. Please wear comfortable clothes and come ready to move and have fun! No RSVP is needed. If you have questions, please feel free to e-mail lauren@houseoftheroses.org

About Us:

House of the Roses offers homeless and at-risk children free weekly on-site dance workshops at partner outreach facilities, such as homeless shelters and community centers.  We also provide the children and our teaching artists with performance opportunities at various locations, ending with a huge dance concert celebrating the success of the past year. We are looking for dancers who love to teach, and have a free hour or two every week (weeknight evenings) to visit an outreach facility with a team of other volunteers to work with the kids. Every week, you will see the kids take steps big and small, towards creative freedom and expression. You will also receive monthly training in dance and teaching techniques from our staff of qualified and experienced lead teachers. You will be in the company of other committed, energetic and talented dancers who all want to make a positive impact on children's lives. We hope to meet you soon!
