8th Season of CounterPointe: new work by women choreographers and their collaborations with artists

Interested women choreographers should have a track record of presenting work and must have interest in collaborating with a visual artist. If selected, you will be paired with a collaborator. Norte Maar will curate this pairing.

We are interested in producing a program which represents the cultural diversity of NYC. There is no house style, though the pointe shoe must be part of the work.

You must be available to collaborate with a New York metro area-based artist. If you live outside of the NY/Metro area, you will need to state how you plan to make yourself available for collaboration. Norte Maar prefers to accept submissions from local artists.

Please forward a short letter of interest, bio/resumé, and LINKS to recent choreography (please do not send video attachments) to: CounterPointeBallet@gmail.com.
Your video link should include choreography for pointe. If no video is available, please share why you would be interested in presenting work on pointe and how much eperience you have.

Submission will be reviewed and selections made on a first come / first served basis.

Performance dates: February 28, 29 and March 1, 2020 at the Mark O'Donnell Theater of the Actors Fund Arts Center, Brooklyn.

Once selected you will have approximately 2 months to create a new collaborative work which will be fully produced. You must be available from Dec 15th-March 1 to work with your paired artist. You are responsible for booking space, dancers, and coordinating rehearsals. (There may be some free or low-cost space made available close to the performance dates.) This is a commission. You and you artist will be paid a fee.

As always, Norte Maar charges no submission fee.

"The artists and audience had the revelatory experience of seeing artwork in a new context: transported from the well-delineated walls of the white cube to the deep space of the black box." -Sharon Butler, TwoCoatsofPaint.com

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
