Open Dance Ensemble's Spring Season

Calling all dancers and movement artists with a passion or interest in structured dance improvisation!
OPEN DANCE ENSEMBLE is seeking dancers for our fourth Spring season. We have three upcoming shows and are in the midst of planning for more performance opportunities. The ensemble specializes in self-conducted improvised dances. We have created more than a dozen works and performed all over- Movement Research, GreenSpace Studio, and Jennifer Muller's Studio to name a few- since we began in 2017. The ensemble is and always has been a volunteer organization, and we pride ourselves on the dedication of our dancers to collaboratively create.

Auditions: Wednesday January 22nd, @ 6-8pm and Wednesday January 29th, @ 6-8pm
Location: Nancy Meehan Dance Studio: 55 Bethune Street, 12th Floor New York, NY 10014

If interested, please send your resume, headshot/dance shot, and a video of your performance experience to opendanceensemble@earthlink.net

The Open Dance Ensemble, based in New York City and founded in January 2017, presents live, self-conducted improvised dance performances to share the excitement, joy, and beauty of dance with our audiences. Following in the footsteps of the Judson Church Theater, where improvisation first became a part of modern dance in 1962, and drawing upon Karl Berger's Creative Music Studio conducted music improvs which began in 1974, the Open Dance Ensemble created self-conducted improvisation, a new form of dance choreography in which the movers not only improvise but also conduct each other as the performance unfolds.
We are interested in the aesthetics of dance. However, our dance philosophy and collaborative way of creating and performing could be viewed as a metaphor for social/political organization in the sense that our content may be relevant to certain issues of today.
