Seeking Immigrant Performers for Development Lab
Company: Sarah Dahnke Projects, Inc
Compensation: weekly pay + metrocard for rehearsal weeks
Choreographer Sarah Dahnke seeks performers for development of a new work through New Victory Theater's LabWorks program.
This movement-based performance centers around immigration, war, refugees, and adoption in a fantastical story told through theater and dance. It utilizes a chapter in the book Women Without Men by Shahrnush Parsipur as source text, adapting a story about a woman protecting herself from war by planting herself in the ground into a story about a mother protecting her child with the same technique.
The work will largely be devised, so it is important the performers have first-person experience with immigration and migration-related topics. Since this is a piece for young audiences, we are particularly seeking performers under the age of 25.
Rehearsals will take place at New 42 Studios during the following weeks from approximately 10am-6pm:
-March 30-April 5:
-May 11-17
-June 15-20
Interested performers should send a short email with interest, performance experience, and their connection to the immigration experience.
