BAX | Brooklyn Arts Exchange's Education Department offers a broad range of youth programs (ages 5-18 years) in tumbling, dance, and theater, as well as early childhood classes (ages 1-5 years). BAX offers competitive hourly pay commensurate with experience. BAX faculty contracts are for the full school year (i.e. September 2020-June 2021). Faculty are required to attend (at least) two annual BAX professional developments, one in September and one in the spring, for which they are compensated, as well as attend bi-annual student concert performances (early/mid-December and early/mid-June). BAX Youth Education’s 2020 Prospective Teaching Artist Workshop is on Monday, April 6 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. From 12:30-1 p.m. there will be an optional time for questions and answers with Education Dept. staff/faculty. Please note that this is for faculty positions in the 2020/21 season.

To apply, please submit a one page cover letter describing your interest in teaching at BAX, past teaching experiences with youth and areas of expertise, and a resume/CV to education@bax.org by February 24, 2020. Your application will be reviewed by the Education Department and competitive candidates will be notified if they are being invited to the audition by March 9. If invited to the workshop, you will be asked to submit a sample lesson plan by March 23. This sample lesson will be facilitated at the workshop for other applicants and some current BAX faculty. (More specific instructions about the sample lesson will be provided upon invitation.) Workshop participants must commit to the entire workshop duration, no exceptions.

Participation in the workshop does NOT guarantee a position in 2020/21. We will only be in touch with candidates we wish to invite to participate in the next stages of this application. No phone calls please.

About BAX: BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange welcomes students, families, faculty, and artists to BAX, an organization with a core commitment to social justice. In keeping with BAX’s mission to “encourage artistic risk taking and stimulate dialogue among diverse constituencies” we intentionally and purposefully support the voices of under-represented individuals and groups of all origins, ages, abilities, races, sexual orientations, and genders – including trans identified individuals, or those with varied immigration statuses. All our constituents join an organization whose staff and Board is actively engaged in challenging the manifestations of whiteness, able-bodiedness and privilege as part of our ongoing anti-racist efforts and our other anti-oppression, pro-inclusion work.
