92Y Musical Theater Seeks Strong Dancers

The Musical Theater Department at 92Y seeks experienced dancers to act as a core group for our upcoming series of Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) performances. Dancers must possess a high level of technical proficiency in Contemporary Dance and, ideally Tap (dancers without both will still be considered). You must be fully vaccinated. Diversity is important to us, so we urge members of the global majority to apply, if interested. We are open to, and respect, all expressions of gender and identity.

Important skills include:

Ability to pick up movement quickly

Excellent musicality/rhythm

An approach to movement that has a storytelling/narrative quality

Comfort with assertive, weighted, quick movement

Specificity of gesture, shape, line, and clear use of space

A sense of your personal virtuosity, be it with turning, jumping, dynamic quality, stage presence, etc. (know your strengths as a dancer)

This is a collaborative creative process and we are interested in kind, resilient, supportive team players. It is essential that you:

Know how to collaborate with adaptability

Are interested in creative play, trial and error, and creative risk-taking

Have an inclusive, empathetic approach to co-performers

Enjoys community atmosphere with a low-competition vibe

Offer:

Dancers will receive (and be required to attend) 2 free dance classes a week, one Contemporary and one Tap, taught by MT Director Megan Doyle. You will be cast (depending in part on your schedule and availability) in 6-12 of our TYA shows in the 2021/22 season. The shows range from informal studio shares to fully produced musicals on the famed KCH stage.

You will receive a weekly stipend for attending both classes, and will be paid performance stipends (contracted separately) for each show.

The upcoming 2021-22 season includes:

Dorothy

Snow White
