Join us for dance exchange, professional development, and a chance to learn and perform JUNTOS repertory in New York City!

Program Information:

JUNTOSLocal NYC is an opportunity for city-based college-aged and emerging professional dancers who have a passion for dance and community to come together for unique shared dance experiences. Attend the first in-person JUNTOS program since January, 2020 - JUNTOSLocal NYC. As we look forward to the day that we can safely travel abroad again, we are slowly returning to in-person initiatives starting here in the U.S. You can get more information by joining our session tomorrow (Nov. 6th at 6pm ET) on Instagram Live - @juntoscollective 

This program is an opportunity for:

- Professional development, leadership, and dance workshops through dance

- JUNTOS pedagogical training

- Learning and performing JUNTOS repertory

- Submit your own choreographic work for performance

- Teaching and performing for diverse communities in New York City

- Meeting and collaborating with a network of peers and professionals in your local dance community

Program Schedule:

Saturday, November 13th- Professional Development and Dance Workshops

12-1:30pm ET - Guest Workshop with Kiri Avelar (Mark Morris Dance Group)

"Centering Chicana/Latina Feminist Pedagogies & Methodologies in the Dance" Class: (11/13/21 – 12-1:30pm at Mark Morris Dance Group)

A workshop that employs Chicana/Latina feminist pedagogies and methodologies of testimonio and plática to discuss personal identities, how these identities are visibilized in our teaching artistry, and how identity is emanated in our dance classes to promote a culturally responsive and relevant dance practice centering our students in the learning.

2-3:30pm ET - Guest Workshop with Antuan Byers (Arts On Site)

"Community Activism In Dance - Finding Your Purpose": (11/13/21 – 2-3:30pm at Arts On Site)

Join Black Dance Change Makers' Founder/CEO, and the creator of the #movementmovement Instagram challenge for a session of movement and mind, where we will begin by getting grounded in our bodies with a movement class, followed by a discussion around ways in which we can use our physical dance movements to build community, and inspire change around us.

3:30-6pm ET - JUNTOS Training & Repertory Rehearsal (Arts On Site)

Saturday, November 20th - Community Outreach Workshop & Performance

Collaborative community workshop and performance with a JUNTOS Community Alliance - time and place TBD, commitment not necessary for full program participation

Sunday, December 5th- Final Performance at Arts On Site

6:30pm & 8:30pm ET- A culminating performance with select solos, duets, and group work, including a mixture of JUNTOS repertory, other student choreography, and guest performances by JUNTOS Alumni.


Registration Options:

Full Program Cost: $95: Includes Guest Workshops and JUNTOS training session (November 13th, 12-6pm), as well as participation in Community Outreach Workshop and repertory performance on Sunday, December 5th.
Drop-In Workshop w/ Kiri Avelar: $25
Drop-In Workshop w/ Antuan Byers: $25
