Spark Movement Collective prepares for its 13th season in NYC! Currently under the direction of Michelle Thompson Ulerich who has taken this company through the pandemic with films, online performances, park performances, live performances, and much more. Michelle values the voices of choreographers in the field and enjoys bringing them into the Spark Family! She feels this creates new and exciting opportunities for the dancers and Spark's patrons. In the past two years Michelle has brought on Kar'mel Small, Dolly Sfeir, Joniece "JoJo" Boykins, and Matt Dittes to create as guests for Spark Movement Collective. The overarching theme of this performance is the mind and mental health. Please pitch us your idea (paragraph to a page) and Michelle and the dancers will review and select 1 choreographer. In your pitch please include the themes, progression of the piece, ideas you wish to share with the audience, types of music (must have rights to the music), number of dancers (no solos or duets), resume, and one video of a past work (performance or studio). The new piece for Spark should be in the 8-10 minute range, and the choreographer will get 20 hours to work with the dancers. The company has 6 dancers and 2 apprentices. The performances will be December 2nd and 3rd in Brooklyn at The Mark O'Donnell Theater, and tech and dress will take place on November 30th and December 1st. The choreographer will need to be available and in town for these dates. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays and Sundays starting in August 2022. All rehearsal space and organizing of the dancers and schedules will be taken care of by Michelle. The guest choreographer will be able to work with a lighting designer for their piece and receive video and photos. A small budget for costumes can be accommodated. Please send your pitch, resume, and video of work to info@sparkmovementcollective.org by June 10, 2022. Feel free to send along any website or Instagram info too.
