Karar Dance Company hosts the first annual River City Dance Film Festival in Virginia’s capital city of Richmond on October 22, 2022 at the Grace Street Theater. Lovingly known as the River City, Richmond is home to the James River which is interstitially woven with vibrant movement as the community plays and moves.

The River City Dance Film Festival accepts modern dance film submissions with the theme of “pure movement”. Karar Dance Company looks for films that exhibit a visceral, inventive, and powerful movement language.

All submissions must be from artists based in the United States age 18 and older. All submissions must also be in the genre of modern dance and subject matter must meet the prompt “pure movement”. The River City Dance Film Festival is a family friendly event. All submissions must be age appropriate for audiences of all ages. No nudity, profanity, violence, etc. Dance film submissions must not exceed 15 minutes including credits.
Filmmakers must hold music rights for their films. Filmmakers agree to authorize Karar Dance Company and the River City Dance Film Festival to use films, photos, etc. in marketing materials to promote the festival. Filmmakers must adhere to all deadlines for films to be included in the festival.
