Fertile Ground: Digging in Group

An Opportunity to Develop and Share New Work

Green Space is proud to announce a new offering as a part of our Fertile Ground New Works Series, Fertile Ground: Digging in Group.

D.I.G. will provide 7 choreographers an excellent opportunity to develop and share new work together during 8 sessions, ending in a culminating Fertile Ground performance in January 22, 2023, exclusive to their cohort.

Each 2-hour session will be moderated by a rotating member of the Green Space Advisory Board, and Artistic Director Valerie Green. During these tri-weekly sessions choreographers will present their work at various stages to their cohort, followed by a moderated peer discussion, enabling choreographers to receive informative feedback in a supportive environment. D.I.G. is about building relationships with fellow artists and creating the opportunity to network with fellow NYC choreographers/dancers, all while creating new opportunities to grow within one’s own choreographic process.

The culminating performance for Digging in Group will take place in the Fertile Ground series in the month of January. This program is for new, emerging and/or established artists and produced with full production values. The evening will consist of work that the cohort has been developing over the 8 sessions, followed by final discussion moderated by Artistic Director Valerie Green - over wine - that integrates the choreographers, dancers, and audience members. Participation by choreographer is required.

Tri-weekly sessions will be on a rotating basis, dates provided in advance. Choreographers are required to be present for a minimum of 6 of the 8 sessions, however presence at all 8 sessions is strongly advised. Dancers need only attend the sessions where their choreographer is presenting.

Artists must be located within New York City's five boroughs to be considered for Fertile Ground.  No out of town artists will be selected to participate in the series.

Green Space provides an inclusive environment; ALL are encouraged to apply.

Deadline: Ongoing, non-curated, first-come, first-served until the cohort is full.

Application fee $200

Each member of the D.I.G. Cohort will receive 20 hours of rehearsal space at Green Space at $9/hour, after the 20 hours are fulfilled choreographers are able to rent space at the rate of $10/hr.
Application fee includes the 8 sessions plus the standard Fertile Ground application fee
