Call for Teaching Artists

TEACHING ARTIST

 

Nimbus’ dance education programs are based on the belief that active participation in the arts builds personal understanding and growth in the areas of communication, responsibility, self-confidence, teamwork, self-awareness, creativity/problem solving, and a healthy lifestyle. Through the School of Nimbus and Nimbus Outreach classes, Nimbus reaches thousands of students throughout Northern New Jersey, providing high-quality dance education regardless of financial standing. Nimbus’ educational programs align with the organization’s mission of using dance and the arts to impact individuals and communities through practicing our core values of Artistic Excellence, Creativity, Community, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility. Leading with “the art” is what we do, providing space for the unique and valuable voices of the students and communities that we serve to grow and flourish.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

Candidate should be:

- Passionate about sharing their unique artistry with students of all ages.

- Interested in the intricacies and art of teaching and constantly looking to improve and deepen their knowledge base and practice as a teaching artist.

- Have an expressible enthusiasm for dance and be a dynamic, expressive, and energized mover with strong musicality

- Committed to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices, and to creating classrooms in which every student is seen, valued, and belongs.

- Flexible and able to adapt to the needs and strengths of different groups of students and classroom settings, and are good team players.

- Great communicator: maintain open communication with Nimbus faculty about the overall process/progress of the program and students

- Design engaging lesson plans appropriate for the assigned age group/skill level demonstrated by students

- Comfortable creating a dance piece to showcase at the end of each semester to demonstrate what students have learned

- Be a responsible ambassador for Nimbus: arrive on time to program locations, mediate a calm and safe classroom environment, aware and comfortable in leading students safely through an emergency if necessary.

- Have weekday availability

 

BIPOC, teaching artists with disabilities, teaching artists from historically marginalized communities, LGBTQIA+ teaching artists are welcome and encouraged to apply.
