RudduR Dance is looking for dancers of the African Diaspora

RudduR Dance in Witness Part 1: Yesterday Jeff Castro

Artistic Director Christopher Rudd is seeking talented dancers of the African Diaspora for the 2023 season of RudduR Dance. The ideal candidates should possess professional dance experience, and exceptional skills in modern, ballet, and partnering techniques, with aerial and circus work being a bonus but not mandatory. Applicants should be ready to work at a high technical and artistic level, exhibit responsibility as a group member, and be open to trying new things, be able to work outside of what is usually asked of dancers, including working with unique apparatuses like bungees and trampolines, as well as collaborating with other artists in the creative process of a full evening-length production.

A strong self-care routine is encouraged for this process. Tending to emotional and mental wellness will be paramount while working towards maximum performance potential.  Applicants should be aware of the sensitive nature of the works and the psychological demands of exploring and depicting them, as this work explores the construct and injustices of race and racism in America. Dancers will be depicting enslaved people, as well as telling stories of modern-day injustices and atrocities. Dancers will be in real chains for the first section of the work, there are scenes of simulated sexual harassment and incest. We work with an Intimacy Director as a key component of working towards a brave and supportive process.
