MOVE: Community Class & Open Rehearsal

Our Ballaro Dance Vision Is Quite Simple:
To bring people together through dance.

Join us for a free MOVE: Community Class & Open Rehearsalseries in NYC as we do just that: come together through dance. We welcome all dancers, at all levels: professional, student, recreational, first-timer, or returning. Truly, all are welcome.

Community Class explores full-bodied movement rooted in groundedness, musicality, suspension, falling, and spinal articulation. At times our goal is to be BIG in space; in other moments, we focus on the presence of delicate and super-important small gestures to communicate. These are essential values to our movement identity so we continue to refine and explore them in the studio during class.

In Open Rehearsal, we're developing a new collaboration with (incredible!) pianist Angela Kim to design a dance inspired by the sport of boxing. All MOVE attendees may be considered for performance projects (including this one!) during our 2023 Season. We have five opportunities to connect during Community Class & Open Rehearsal from now through June (March 16 & 30, April 13, May 18, and June 15 - all are Thursdays) and we hope you'll take us up on the invitation to MOVE.

Wondering how to connect with us for a Community MOVER or Guest MOVER opportunity? Here's the truth: Ballaro Dance likes to get to know people the old-fashioned way. We don't currently hold "open auditions" and we like to get to know YOU (whether dancer, collaborator, audience member, etc.) through the old-school (and tried and true) way of talking and listening and learning about one another, together. Come join us in the studio and get to know us...we can't wait to meet you.

Our Mission:
Ballaro Dance builds community through the creation and presentation of modern dance while inviting its audience, often first-time dance viewers, to SEE, MOVE, & SHARE with the Company in an approachable, welcoming environment. We choreograph to tell stories; we dance to engage with people; we produce art to build community.

*Email to register for the free MOVE session until space capacity is reached.
