Bennington College Technical Instructor in Lighting & Dance Production

 

Bennington College seeks a Technical Instructor in Lighting and Dance Production for a full time, year-round, benefits eligible position beginning in late January or early February 2024, to provide support for the dance and drama programs and events in our spaces outside the academic terms. The Technical Instructor serves as the the primary supervisor for all drama and dance light hang and focus calls, and is also the technical director for dance productions; they work as part of a team of faculty and staff overseeing productions. Responsibilities include: maintaining the lighting systems and repertory plots in multiple theaters and studios, supervising the use of equipment within those venues, providing management and technical support for all dance technical rehearsals and performances, providing technical and safety assistance in support of the dance curriculum, hiring, training and managing student employees, instruction and oversight of students doing production labs in lighting or run crew, troubleshooting faculty and student technical issues that arise, and instructing faculty/students on equipment use.

This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, at least two years of professional experience, ability to handle multiple tasks and manage time and projects effectively,  interest and aptitude in working across disciplines with a diverse body of students and faculty, working knowledge of Vectorworks, Lightwright, moving lights, conventional and LED sources, and ETC consoles & dimmers, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, ability to lift or maneuver up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and ability to work on your feet as well as on catwalks, lifts and ladders. Experience managing a crew, training inexperienced workers, and knowledge of basic electronics and networking are highly desirable. A high regard for personal and workplace safety is required, as is an interest in contemporary production practices. This position requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.
