Join our Show Kids team! We are looking for a bilingual (Spanish/English) Dance, Music, & Theater Teaching Artist to be part of our arts education in-school and after-school residency programs, “Spanish Through Performing Arts.”

PROGRAM SUMMARY

We are a children’s Performing Arts School where young artists learn to sing, dance, and act with the best teaching artists in New York City. We provide an enjoyable space to foster creativity and exploration, a safe and non-competitive environment where kids can grow as artists as they develop fundamental leadership skills. At Show Kids, we use progressive education methods and focus on hands-on projects and social-emotional learning to inspire children to be their best selves.

POSITION SUMMARY

2 to 8 hours per week, depending on the number of programs taught. Programs offered are in-school (9 am to 2:30 pm) or after school (2 to 6 pm). Spring and Summer opportunities are available for successful candidates.

Dance, Music, and Theater Teaching Artists plan and implement performing arts lessons for groups of 5 to 20 children between the ages of 2 and 13. The ideal candidate should be able to design lessons engaging the target population.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Design Dual-language (English/Spanish), age-appropriate, project-based arts activities that allow participants to think and create like performing artists. The activities should align with the Program goals and the NYC Blueprint for Teaching & Learning in the Arts.
- Develop a culminating event appropriate to the length and scale of the program.
- Participate in planning meetings before the start of the program and during the course of the program with the Show Kids Leadership team.
- Share the overall goals for the program and realistic project possibilities within the performing arts with the Assistant Teaching Artist.
- Classroom set-up and clean-up: Arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of a session to set up the classroom environment and prepare the materials for efficiency and FUN!
- Facilitate Dual-language (English/Spanish) dance, music, and theater classes that are engaging, culturally relevant, and developmentally appropriate, with a focus on creativity and leadership for children ages 2 to 13. Set tone and pacing and give participants directions for each lesson.
- Implement outstanding classroom management strategies based on building relationships, role modeling, clarifying expectations, establishing structures and routines, and adapting to individual needs.
- Create a classroom culture that fosters reflection, self-esteem, and social-emotional development in all participants.
- Communicate with the Assistant Teaching Artist when needing assistance with classroom management and co-teaching.
- Regularly Inform the Assistant Teaching Artist and the Show Kids leadership staff if a scheduling conflict arises or if you are running late.
- Submit completed timesheets, Lesson Plans, and any required planning document to the Show Kids leadership staff.
- Submit a brief Oral report to Show Kids Leadership Staff at the end of each session.
Participate in professional development training, staff meetings, and Teaching Artist Training.
Ability to travel to different teaching sites in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx using public transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Must be an experienced Dance, Music, and/or Theater Teaching Artist with the ability to do any of the following: Create age-appropriate choreographic material and lead dance-making activities / Sight-read, follow sheet music, and learn the material by listening to audio tracks / Design and facilitate theater games and direct a theater play
- Must speak fluent Spanish and English (Native Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply!)
- Bachelor's degree preferred. Must have a High School Diploma
- A minimum of two years experience working with youth
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate classroom practices and the ability to work with pre-K, elementary, and/or middle school youth is a requirement
- Must be able to participate in required professional development workshops
- A willingness to perform, sing, and be silly in front of both children and adults
- A joy for meeting, engaging, and connecting with children
- A flexible attitude and a welcoming smile
- A warm and friendly personality that commands a room
- A strong desire to collaborate and share ideas with a team
- Legally able to work in the US
- All staff are required to have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by order of the NYC Health Commissioner.

Salary: Part-time position, $50 - $75 per hour based on experience and education credentials.
