Performer Call for "The DECAGON Project"

A dancer basking in blue light. White text reads "Audition for The DECAGON Project" Ara Tandon

The 46 Minutes Collective seeks performers for an upcoming workshop production of the Collective’s inaugural work, The DECAGON Project! We’re looking for performers who are comfortable memorizing text and learning choreographed and improvised movement. If you’re curious about verbatim theater, chance mechanisms, longform improvisation, and consensual audience participation practices, then this is the right production for you! Queer performers, disabled performers, and performers of the global majority are especially encouraged to send their materials.

About The DECAGON Project

The DECAGON Project is a dance-theater work for ten performers and audience—choreographed by Hannah Littman, dramaturged and co-written by Avi Klipfel, and co-written by Gabby Kimbrough—that (very literally) asks many questions: How do we show an audience what’s behind the literal and metaphorical curtain? What does it mean to be a theatermaker, performer, and audience member in today’s world? What do your daydreams look like? The DECAGON Project combines grounded choreography with verbatim text derived from hours of recorded conversations and stories shared between the company and the community at large. Our goal is to feature a diverse cast who have wildly varying experiences with dance so that we can bring as many people from as many backgrounds as possible into the performance space. This piece had its world premiere in August 2023 at the IndyFringe Theater Festival, and we are so excited to be presenting a workshop production in NYC and bringing new collaborators into our process! This will be an exceptionally low-tech, small-budget performance opportunity.

Production Dates:

Interviews for Verbatim Text: 4/1-4/10 (One 1-hour Meeting with Avi + Two 1-hour Whole Group Meetings, dependent on group scheduling availability)

Rehearsals: 5/22-6/14 (Three to four 2-hour weekday evening rehearsals + One 2-hour weekend rehearsal per week)

Performances: 6/15-6/16 (Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances, with a possibility to extend to one additional performance 6/14)

Compensation

$300 stipend. We are a small but mighty new collective, and it is our goal in the future to pay our artists a proper wage.

About The 46 Minutes Collective

The 46 Minutes Collective is a New York-based, non-hierarchical performance collective founded in 2022 by Sloane Burling, Elliot Hoke, Gabby Kimbrough, Avi Klipfel, and Hannah Littman: a group of artists committed to nurturing and producing boldly original, interdisciplinary time-based work. We aim to bolster emerging artists in their pursuit to push the limits of form, challenge the purity of medium, and foster collaborative processes. Our works exist in the in-between and the surreal; they tap on the fourth wall in a quest to make art that is accessible and creatively adventurous.
