Audition July 15: La Mezcla is a polyrhythmic, San Francisco-based dance and music company rooted in Chicana, Latina and Indigenous traditions and social justice. Founded in 2015 by Dance/USA artist fellow Vanessa Sanchez, their work brings together Tap dance, Son Jarocho and Afro-Caribbean rhythms to bring the often unseen histories and experiences of communities of color to stages, streets and fields. The current touring production, Ghostly Labor, explores the history of labor in the US–Mexico borderlands, highlighting the power of joy and collective resistance in the face of systemic oppression and exploitation. La Mezcla is holding auditions for dancers and dancers who sing for the Fall 2024 tour dates of Ghostly Labor. Registration and video submission required. BIPOC artists strongly encouraged to apply. Click here to register. 

Seeking performers with the following experience and training:

Dancer

-Training and performance experience in Afro Caribbean dance styles including Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and/or Afro-Haitian

-Strong turns and jumps

-Experience/ training in percussion, Tap dance and/or Zapateado a plus.

Dancer who sings 

-Training and performance experience in Afro Caribbean dance styles including Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and/or Afro-Haitian

-Strong turns and jumps

-Experience/ training in percussion, Tap dance and/or Zapateado a plus.

-Vocal training with ability to maintain harmonies 

-Experience singing in Spanish

-Experience singing lead in Rumba or Salsa a plus.

Audition Requirements

Dancers: 

-Participants will be asked to perform movement across the floor and be taught a sequence of choreography. Dancer should audition in barefeet or Jazz shoes. 

Dancers who sing, will also be asked for the following:

Prepare a 45 second- 1 minute song in Spanish to be sung in audition. Please submit playback audio below or send to Lamezclasf@gmail.com by 12pm July 15, 2024.

Prepare the harmony of the “La Colectiva” coro provided here. Please record yourself singing the harmony with this track. Submit below or send to Lamezclasf@gmail.com by 12 pm July 15, 2024.
