About the Organization:
ALDEN MOVES Dance Theater is dedicated to making movement dance and making dance move--on stage and in the classroom. At our home in Prospect Park South, every child is a dancer. Focused training is steeped in tradition and infused with contemporary perspective, and we offer a schedule of classes in which the whole family can discover--or revisit--their joy of movement, music, and dancing. Our studio serves as a playground for the arts where students mingle with professionals and a new generation of artists and audiences is inspired, one student at a time. 

 

About the Position:
As part of the launch of our new “Dance Explorers” After School Program at PS 889, ALDEN MOVES Dance Theater is seeking a part-time, multi-faceted after school program teacher for the 2024-25 School Year (September 10, 2024- June 17, 2025). Applicants must have the ability to start training immediately following Labor Day (or earlier) and work the following in-person schedule:

 

Tuesday, 1:45pm-5:45pm for kids of mixed dance experience ages 5-7

Thursday, 1:45pm-5:45pm for kids of mixed dance experience ages 8-10

 

Note: Additional administrative hours may be available at our studio or as the program grows. Please inquire if you’re interested in learning more. 

 

Requirements:

Must enjoy working with kids and be able to commute to Prospect Park South.

Teaching experience with children in a dance studio or DOE setting.

Strong background in multiple styles of dance from classical styles to Hip Hop, African, and cultural dance forms.

An interest in participating in curriculum building and leading costume, prop, and set design crafts (a background in art is a plus).

Ability to lead a warm-up and put together choreography in the style being studied during each new unit.

Participate with students in Dance Parade NYC and assist with the showcases at local fairs that students may be invited to dance in. 

Detail-oriented team player who is punctual, reliable, and has excellent communication skills  (as related both to teaching and with studio management). 

A patient and intuitive teacher who enjoys professional development opportunities

Conscientious execution and participation in any applicable COVID safety plans.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel and Google Docs.

Familiarity with or ability to quickly pick-up: Weebly, Sawyer, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Audacity, I-Movie


 

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience starting at $30/hr for teaching and up to $20/hr for administrative or planning hours. Fringe benefits include comped dance and Pilates classes and in-house continuing education opportunities.
