Teaching Artist with Westchester Ballet

Community Education Teaching Artist

Commitment to Core Values of Access and Excellence:

At Westchester Ballet Company, we believe in the importance of uniting people through shared artistic experiences. We not only focus on nurturing and presenting dance as an art form but also strive to make it accessible to all. This means we aim to provide affordable or no-cost access to our performances and give school-aged children who are interested in dancing with WBC the opportunity to do so without financial burdens. Our goal is to eliminate financial barriers and make dance more diverse, while also creating meaningful opportunities for young individuals and fostering positive social change in our community.

Responsibilities:

• Plan classes that progress across the duration of the school year. Determine pacing and overall arch of the curriculum.

• Teach ballet technique with opportunities for students to develop their creative voices.

• Prepare students for an end-of-year show.

• Commit to a Culturally Responsive Pedagogy with the goals of building community by celebrating and engaging the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of students in classes.

• Communicate with WBC Teaching Assistant and school’s Teacher’s Aid to ensure that each member of the teaching team knows their role and can work collaboratively.

• Communicate with WBC Community Ed Coordinator to troubleshoot any issues that may arise - I’m here to support you!
