Organization Description

Founded in 2015, Dance Data Project® (DDP) is a global resource for the study and analysis of major national and international dance companies, venues, and choreographic awards. In addition, DDP surveys competitions, festivals, and scholarship programs worldwide. We provide resources for those seeking information about female choreographers, set, costume & lighting designers, as well composers of classically inspired dance music, and compile a growing list of female performing arts leaders worldwide. DDP now ranks the Largest 150 classically based companies and the Largest 125 contemporary and modern companies by budget, and we continue to expand the global scope of the dance industry. 

DDP’s work has been featured in the New York Times, NPR, NBC, Forbes, Fortune, the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, radio and television in the United States and globally.

Position Description

Reporting to the Senior Research Team Member, and the President and Founder, the research consultant will assist in compiling DDP full Reports, as well as shorter form Data Bytes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with the collection and verification of internal and publicly available data, including but not limited to the following information:

Size of company by budget and revenue (if available), or number of dancers

Compensation for key leadership roles

Company information such as founding dates, leadership and senior staff positions

Season programming information, with notation of:

Choreographer - by gender

Length of work

Whether it is a premiere or part of repertoire

Presentation format 

Report weekly status.

Participate in team meetings to review progress    and deliverables as well as 2 yearly mandatory All Team Meetings.

Understanding, and not deviating from DDP’s mission to promote gender equity in dance and to advance pay equity and transparency in the field.

Requirements: Education, Experience, and Skills

Meticulous, attentive to detail, and in possession of effective time management and organizational skills. 

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 

Precision in writing - proper use of grammar, some knowledge of AP style preferred

Nurtures positive and collaborative working relationships with team members as well as external resources.  

Interest in and knowledge of ballet and other classical-influenced dance is recommended but not necessary

Coding/computer programming experience, research experience, and an interest in ballet research.

Background in computer science, math and statistics are/is highly recommended.

Familiarity with Github, Python, and R, is an asset, specifically relating to extracting data from XML files. 

Part-Time Position: 

8–10 hours per week at $20–25 per hour (unless receiving academic credit), with opportunities for annual reviews that may include raises and potential for promotion based on performance.

Minimum 6-month commitment required. 

Compliance with all DDP protocols, including but not limited to 

Friday Status Reports, 

invoicing procedures, 

signing an NDA to promote freedom of discussion, 

attendance at 2 yearly All Team meetings

100% remote work.
