MFA Dance Thesis/ Raised Spirits

4 BIPOC dancers wearing skin tone jump white ropes around the waist lifting a light skinned African American woman Wendy Ann Powell

Seeking two BIPOC dancers with acting ability for an MFA Dance Thesis Project.

My work deals with historical trauma in the Black Female body and how spiritual dance practices can heal. The first iteration is an informal works-in-progress showing on Wednesday, December 11th, from 3:30-6:50 pm at Hunter College.  The rehearsal is on Saturday, December 7th, from 10 am to 2 pm for the December 11th sharing. The first part is a fast turnaround, so please apply only if you can commit and learn quickly and want to be part of a community.

The main show takes place in March 2025, with tech and dress on March 18th and performances on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, and Sunday, March 23, 2025, @Triskelion Arts.

Rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and tentative Saturday rehearsals are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As this deals with intergenerational and historical trauma in the Black Female body, I am seeking dancers from the BIPOC community who are familiar with dances from the diaspora and are modern trained. This is a collaborative process with many moving parts.

If you are unavailable for the December 7th rehearsal and December 11th sharing but would like to work on the March project, please submit your materials. Rehearsals begin immediately

Rehearsal rate is $15 per hour. There is a stipend for the thesis project in March.

Apply
