This evening with dance artists Jasmine Hearn and Shantelle Courvoisier Jackson is part of the Movement Research Van Lier Fellowship program, supported by the New York Community Trust.
Jasmine Hearn's the sable venus blue and burning is a solo that uses memories of home, travel, and the waters that we visited and that visited us as source for a collage of dance, song, and story-telling. Revisiting imagery from an ongoing collaboration with visual artist and activist Jennifer Myers, Jasmine intends for this to be a map.
Shantelle Courvoisier Jackson will share a practice called
Onbeingbecoming or Againundoing:
A mythos of the Yin aspect, that is, the mysterious feminine.
A practice of internal alchemy within the individual and the collective.
Acts of devotion towards dissolving duality in the realm of identity.
Engaging through ritual to loosen exclusionary concepts and constructs upholding injustice.
