Contemplative Dance Practice

Contemplative Dance Practice

7:00pm-9:00pm Contemplative Dance Practice with Zena Bibler

$5

Contemplative Dance Practice, facilitated by Zena Bibler, is a three part session formally divided between seated meditation, personal attunement (warmup), and improvised movement in a group. CDP was developed at Naropa University by Barbara Dilley, who has been practicing and studying meditation in the Shambhala tradition of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche for more than 30 years. Described by Dilley as “a meditator’s dance hall or a dancers’ meditation hall,” this practice provides opportunities to develop awareness of inner and outer rhythms, deepen spiritual disciplines, and participate in the social and political dynamics of an ensemble system.

Zena Bibler creates dance structures that use the moving body as a means of experiencing diverse environments, phenomena, and modes of being. She is co-founder of the Movement Party and Fleet Moves with Katie Schetlick and has created dances for Lublin International Dance Theatre Festival, Museum Perron Oost, Cairo Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival, NADA Hudson, and Movement Research at the Judson Church. She has facilitated classes and other sensorimotor experiences at CLASSCLASSCLASS, The New Museum, Parsons, The New School, Yale University, the University of Virginia, Wellfleet Preservation Hall, Studio 303, and Electric Fish Studio. www.zenabibler.com
