Dance Movement Therapy Alternate Route Training Program - Application Deadline

We are pleased to announce

ALTERNATE  ROUTE  DANCE/MOVEMENT  THERAPY PROGRAM

APPLICATION DEADLINE – FEB. 1, 2020

Dates of Summer Program: June 8 - 26, 2020 (1st session of the 3-session cycle)*

*The entire program will take place over three summers, for 3 weeks each summer.

This intensive program offers the Dance/Movement Therapy course requirements of 270 hours for alternate route, plus 90 hours of Movement Observation and Analysis and 45 hours of Group Process in DMT, as required by the American Dance Therapy Association.

Applicants to the program need to have at least begun a Masters Degree in a related field, or in one of the helping professions. The alternate route is aimed at providing dance therapy skills to mental health professionals. This program is not a preparation to become a New York State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist. One cannot receive an NYS LCAT through a dance therapy alternate route program.

Dance/Movement Therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to further the emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration of the individual. The dance/movement therapist focuses on movement behavior as it emerges in the therapeutic relationship. Expressive, communicative, and adaptive behaviors are all considered for both group and individual treatment. (www.adta.org).
