The Equus Projects and BodyStories are pleased to announce a truly unique workshop at the Middlebrook Arts Research + Residency Center in Jefferson, NY this November. Join us to explore the interspecies dialogue between humans and equines with Equus Projects Artistic Director, JoAnna Mendl Shaw (https://www.equus-onsite.org/) in collaboration with the popular Catskill equestrian, equine trainer and musician, Dan McCarthy (https://www.saddlerock.info/) in two workshops. Saturday, November 6th, the team will teach a workshop for equestrians - a morning session with equines that introduces movement explorations and improvisation techniques that Shaw uses to create performance works with horses. In an afternoon studio session at Middlebrook, we deepen the embodied experience, exploring without horses. The November 7th workshop is also for dancers who have always dreamed of dancing with a horse! Dancers audit the morning equine session and join equestrians in the studio Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, the day begins with hands-on equine experiences led by Shaw and McCarthy, followed by a studio session at Middlebrook where Shaw, joined by guest dance artist, Teresa Fellion (https://bodystoriesfellion.org/) will translate the morning paddock experiences into choreographic explorations. We encourage auditors to come and observe both workshops!
Dancers and “non-dancers” of all ages, abilities, and interests are welcome! Your involvement with the horses can also easily be at your comfort level.

*Due to the ever changing nature of the Delta variant, we require for participants to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination and to test negative 48 hours in advance. Policies for this may be updated.
