How are dance artists and companies presenting and preserving themselves on the Internet? What archiving and/or choreographic tools lurk on the web? We will familiarize ourselves with digital resources that lead us to various archives of contemporary dance, for either choreographic or academic research. Bring your laptop and any sources you want to share. The class is co-taught by Wendy Perron and Siobhan Burke.

This workshop is part of the Digital Technology Professional Series, curated by Paul Galando.

Siobhan Burke is a freelance dance critic for The New York Times and a Dance Magazine contributing writer. She has also contributed to The Brooklyn Rail and The Performance Club, among other publications. As a dancer, she has performed with Darrah Carr, Hadley Smith, RoseAnne Spradlin, Jillian Sweeney, Rebecca Warner, Narcissister, and the North American touring company of Riverdance. Wendy Perron, author of Through the Eyes of a Dancer, had a 30-year career as a dancer/choreographer. She danced with the Trisha Brown company in the 1970s and choreographed more than 40 works for her own group. She has taught at Bennington, Princeton, and CalArts among many other schools and dance centers. In the early 1990s she served as associate director of Jacob’s Pillow, where she directed intensives in improvisation. The former editor in chief of Dance Magazine, Wendy has also written for The New York Times, The Village Voice, Contact Quarterly, Dance Europe, and vanityfair.com. Currently, as editor at large of Dance Magazine, she continues her online series of interviews, Choreography in Focus. She also teaches a graduate seminar at NYU Tisch School of the Arts; she writes commentary for her own website at http://wendyperron.com/ and tweets at @wperrondancemag.
