Class with Alvaro Gonzalez:

"Shifting through" is a contemporary dance class that mixes elements coming from floorwork, momentum based movement, Laban/Leeder technique with a focus in to grow an awareness of the movement from perception, identifying the sensation of the movement according to the tone, rhythm, and the relationship with the space. This class propose an understanding of the dynamic of the body not just as a finished structure on the limbs but also as a structure that prolongs in infinity through the environment.
The approachment to momentum will come from letting the energy travel through the expansion and reduction of the space of the body in parts and as a whole; Understanding the dance movement not just as an action of the body but also as an expression of the space that it reveals.
The class starts with a warm up with breathing and mobility exercises to get a sense of groundness, activating de body and perception of it in the space, followed with improvisational exercises to start moving the fluids of the body release the joints and activate internal muscles.
In the middle part of the class, we will go through short phrases through the floor, middle level and high level, allowing an understanding of the movement vocabulary to facilitate the learning of a physically dynamic final Phrase that collects the elements explored in the class and fully engage with the “Shifting through” Dance Movement.
