Chris Ferris & Dancers will perform Just In Time

Choreography: Chris Ferris – Music composition and live performance: Loren Kiyoshi Dempster

Dancers: Julia Asher, Alli Bradley, Kelly Ireland, Sophia Diehl, and Rachael Venner

Just In Time is dance influenced by observations of the repeating circular patterns of trees, plants, water, and weather. Linear Folds in Orbit is a tightly composed brainy duet contrasting flow and linear precision. The movement’s small details are its conversation and its large sweeps are a breath of air clearing the palate. A Short Distance, executed by a single dancer, who flattens herself to the earth, pulls against gravity and takes flight in an “upward seeking” to settle in both worlds. The Pendulum Weighs In (trio) takes the momentum of a single axis and hurls it into space. Shifting planes are the currents that wash through this dance forming direct approach verses subtle harmonies. Force of Water/Flood of Thought is a quartet reflecting on the force and beauty of water verses the rationale of the human mind. It puts these elements together in one dance so that they may coexist in a sampler for a global experience.

Sophia Diehl will perform Sullen Roots

Choreographer and Dancer: Sophia Diehl

Sullen Roots transmutes the energy of traumatic experience into an embodied expression of resilience and healing. Beginning with constriction and moving towards release, the movement excavates difficult memories and reshapes them into an integration of the whole self. Inspired by the imagery of poet John O'Donohue, this piece explores the analogy of a "bitter tree" as metaphor for the ways that the body's responses to trauma can both protect and inhibit us. Ultimately, the piece invites the audience into new ways of imagining healing, acknowledging the experiences that have shaped us without being imprisoned by them.

Synergy Dance Collective NY/Nancy Brier will perform Deux Trios

Choreographer: Nancy Brier

Dancers: Tiffany Canner, José Flores, Lauren Hiraldo, Melissa Norman and Summer Warwick

Deux Trios follows the trajectory of memorable moments in a person’s life: the youthful search for adventure, excitement, friendship—never content, always looking for something better—and ultimately discovering comfort, compassion and the feeling of “home” in the deep bonds of love.

 Harper Foote will perform sport(dance)

Choreographer: Harper Foote

Dancers: Sophia Diehl, Nyah Malone, Emma Dulski (Sun.), Alexandra Strouse (Sat.), and Harper Foote

sport(dance) is inspired by the awe of athletics. It looks for the dance that can be found within sports. By using athletic moments from professional sports as inspiration for movement creation, we hope to admire these often spontaneous physical feats as their own form of art and open further dialogue on what sport is and can be.
