In Good Company

“In Good Company” is a curated show of NY percussive dance companies and choreographers presented by #Taplife Company and our Artistic Director, Anthony Lo Cascio.  Anthony, a Native New Yorker, has opened up shows for the likes of Stevie Wonder and he is the first American to get a standing role in the show Tap Dogs as a NYC Cast member and International touring cast member. After many years on stage as the "talent" he discovered he had a genuine appreciation of taking on a new role as an Artistic Director and Producer. He eventually returned to New York City and started a professional tap dance company, #Taplife. Upon his return he noticed New York had changed drastically for dancers in his absence. This lead him and his team to curate a show where a proper sprung wood floor is provided as well as being sure the companies and choreographers were getting paid for their efforts and performance.

In his own words, "It's currently very hard to find opportunities to present your work as a dancer in New York. Many of the 'opportunities' require you to pay to perform and that doesn't work for me. I was always taught professional dancers get paid for their work. It seems to be even harder if you are a percussive dance company. Not only are you asked to perform you are told they things like, 'we don't accept percussive dance at this event', 'are you O.K. dancing on cement?' or 'you can only dance if you provide your own staging'. After personally encountering these major challenges trying to present work with my own company for the last few years, I decided the current landscape of opportunities for tap dance in NYC is not acceptable and that we, as a dance community, could and should do better. In Good Company is my attempt to take action and leave something better than he found it…"
