Program Details

The Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation is pleased to present “Isadora Goes Chelsea!”, an exciting series of pop-up immersive dance performances featuring Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company and taking place February 13th-16th, 2025, in Chelsea, New York.

Enter a world of silks and ribbons, flowers and fancy as you enter a pop-up Chelsea gallery dedicated to the living art of Duncan Dance. Dancers will be costumed in the free-flowing Greek style silk tunics iconically donned by Isadora Duncan, the "mother of modern dance," as she performed more than a century ago as well as fresh looks conceived by Queens-born Batsheva Hay, who founded her eponymous womenswear brand in 2016 after quitting her job as a lawyer. A darling of the international fashion press, BATSHEVA claims a loyal following of fans, including a diverse array of celebrities. With these new looks, we playfully explore the idea of how Isadora might dress to express the freedom and power of her form if she were alive today, or how a woman of today with Isadora’s sensibilities appears.

Directed by Lori Belilove as the first in a series of Isadora150 programs designed to honor Isadora Duncan’s legacy, the event will embrace contemporary artistic collaborations. Join us on those dates to experience an immersive performance merging Duncan’s timeless dance style and repertoire with Chelsea’s artistic energy.

This unique event features a "living sculpture gallery" in which the Company dancers are positioned like living sculpture who gradually animate to stunning dancing, enhanced by dramatic lighting. The setting echoes the avant-garde “happenings” of mid-20th-century New York, blurring the lines between performer and audience.

Collaboration with Batsheva Hay

In true Duncan fashion, the Foundation has partnered with contemporary artists and designers to bring "Isadora Goes Chelsea!" and the “Living Sculpture Gallery Pop-up” to life.

One notable collaborator is Batsheva Hay, a visionary designer known for blending art, fashion, and movement. Hay’s distinctive aesthetic will elevate the visual and emotional impact of the performance, seamlessly integrating design and dance.

Lori Belilove, the Foundation’s acclaimed artistic director, who performed at the opening of Batsheva Hay’s 2024 New York Fashion Week show.
