Momotaro, Spirit of Peach
Once upon a time, there was an old couple who lived in Japan. One day, while the wife was washing clothes in the river, she found a giant peach floating down the river. She brought it to home to her husband so they could eat it. When they cut the peach, a baby boy came out of it. The childless couple were pleased and named him Momo Taro (Peach Boy). Momo Taro grew up to be a fine young man. One day, he learned that a village had been attacked by ogres from Ogre Island, who stole children and wealth from the villagers. Seeing the people suffer, Momo Taro decided to conquer the ogres. When he told his parents, the old couple, of his decision, they gave him new clothes, armour, flags with “Number One in Japan” written on them, and lots of “hundred-man-power” millet dumplings. On his way to Ogre Island, Momo Taro used the millet dumplings to entice a dog, a monkey and a pheasant to join him. When they arrived at Ogre Island, the ogres were in the middle of celebrating winning the villagers’ wealth. Finally, Momo Taro and his followers fought with the ogres, and…. Come to the theatre to see what happens next.
