Join us for Moving the Ballot, an intergenerational dance-theater performance that celebrates our democratic rights and amplifies the voices of young people.

This inspiring event features high school to college-aged students in collaboration with professional dancers from the New York City area. Through monologues and dance, the performers share stories and family histories about voting, reflecting on their experiences and aspirations for the future. Conceptualized and directed by Sameena Mitta, this performance draws on the turbulent times of the racial justice uprisings and the January 6th insurrection, capturing the emotional landscape of the 2020 election and the anxiety surrounding the 2024 election. Moving the Ballot is a poignant reminder of the excitement, disappointment, hope, and acceptance that define our democratic process. It underscores the importance and fragility of voting, inviting the audience to reflect on past and future elections and the role of each individual in shaping our democracy. Don’t miss this powerful celebration of youth perspectives and the enduring significance of our democratic institutions. Guest performances by students from Teens@Graham, Limón Pro, José Marti Stem Academy, Marymount Manhattan College, and 92NY Harkness Dance Center.
